Version 6.1.0 does not start under Linux Mint 18.3 Cinnanon 64-bit

I have a working ver 5.3.0 of the program QEWB and now installed (updated) to QEWB-6.1.0 The new version is impossible to start.
I have downloaded "Quick 'n Easy Web Builder 6.1.0 Ubuntu / Debian Package (64-bit) (Build date: February 5, 2019)"
and made installation of .deb. Now available as icon during application manager.
I have also downloaded "qnewb6_linux.zip" and extract the files to the chosen location and made the file "qnewb" executable, but nothing happens!
If I open the terminal and run the program "qnewb" then the previous version starts 5.3.0!
What is the difference in the versions? Why does version 5 start and not version 6?
Grateful for any point of view and idea of this, so that I will proceed with the new version of the program.
Regards
Yngve

Hi yngve:

Ubuntu 18.04 LTS here.
I did update QnEWB 5.3 to 6.0 and now to 6.1.
I used just the .deb installation file and nothing else -> everything seamlessly fine! I guess that should do for Mint also! Why did you use the QnEWB Linux version?

Regards
Michael

Version 6.x is a complete new version, created with the latest (64 bit) compilers. Version 5 was using a version old 'core' so it needed to be updated to be compatible with recent Linux versions.
However, I am sure it can also work with Mint.

If you run start the application via a terminal session then you should see which libraries are missing on your system.

Thank you Mikael for your answer.
You wondered why I used "QnEWB Linux" Just because of the simple reason that the installation of .deb did not work. The installation of .deb proceeded without comment but the program does not start. Therefore, I tried to install "QnEWB Linux" and extract the files and start the program "qnewb" directly from the library but unfortunately with the same results.

Thank you Pablo for your answer!
I have attempted to start the program directly in terminal and the following message is displayed [Gtk-Message: Failed to load module "atk-bridge"] then the program starts in the previous version 5.3.0
Sincerely
Yngve

The error seems to indicate that "atk-bridge"' is missing or corrupt.

Maybe this will work?

Code: Select all

apt install libatk-adaptor
or else:
https://www.google.com/search?q=atk-bridge

After the installation of "libatk adapter" is done, the error message is gone but the program still does not start.
At the terminal execution it is still the previous version 5.3.0 that starts ... without error message! Unfortunately.

Yngve

Did you install the correct version for your computer (32bit vs 64 bit)?

The installed file is
"Quick-n-easy-web-builder 6_6.1.0_amd64.deb"
and installed to this system.

Note that version 5 was only available as 32bit.
Did you also try the 32bit version?

I don't remember what was installed. But if it was only 32bit then there is the one that is installed.
The package installed in my computer version 5 is
"Quick-n-easy-web-builder-5: i386"

I have now removed 64bit and made a .deb installation of 32bit.
Unfortunately, the program does not start. If I try to start via terminal then version 5 starts, no error message in the terminal.
Thus the result is the same as before, regardless of 64-bit and 32-bit

I assume you have also tried all these suggestions?
http://www.quickandeasywebbuilder.com/f ... 10&t=40319

If that still does not work the I really do not know what the issue is.
There should be at least be a message generated by the system to tell you what is missing.

For me, it works on Mint without any additional steps.

I note when comparing the program file "qnewb" in version 5 is an executable program file. But that version 6 is called unknown? The system cannot for any reason make the file an executable program file!
I have installed the .deb program on a completely different computer with the same operating Linux Mint 18.1 and get the same results. The program does not start! Note that the file "qnewb" is of unknown type?

Maybe you have a virus scanner that blocks it?

I have no active virus program installed in the computer, I do not know if Linux Mint has any virus protection built in.

I have now tried to find every way to solve the problem of starting up my paid update of the program but unfortunately without results.
I have not previously had problems like this with the installation of .deb file.
Cause ... can the problem be related to Linux kernel? The system uses the latest offered which is 4.15.0-46

I will now continue to work on version 5, but of course I was looking forward to accessing the improvements with working in the new version 6.
I am very pleased with the program which is easy to work and would be happy to use, but may well be open to alternatives.

Thank you Pablo for your help and commitment so far.
Sincerely / Yngve
